Are We Moving Toward Jesus, the Peaceful One?


Steve Veazey, president and denominational leader of Community of Christ, introduces the 2021 Guiding Question for Community of Christ: "Are we moving toward Jesus, the peaceful one?"

“To be fully present in a moment can be challenging. It requires a refocusing of the mind on something as simple as a single breath. Jesus, the peaceful one, resides in that moment. Embodying Christ's peace always has a strong aspect of what some call hereness and nowness.

As individuals, groups and communities, are our thoughts and actions aligned with Christ's peace? Are we moving toward Jesus, the peaceful one?

These questions continue to guide and challenge us in real life situations every day. it's my hope and prayer that we can collectively take a breath and keep our focus on what it means to be moving toward Jesus, the peaceful one.”

Romans 5:1-2

Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God.

It is indeed a question worth asking: are we moving towards Jesus, the peaceful one? Are we?

  To Cry or to Scream? Out of the depths I cry to you, O  Lord .   Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!   Psalm 130:1-2 Sometimes injustice is so obvious and so close that we want to cry out and to shout to God or anyone who will listen.
